You may not be aware that the village has a hymn tune named after it.

On page 623 of Songs of Praise there appears a tune by Martin Shaw titled 'Oakridge Lynch'. It is a simple and charming melody with uncomplicated harmonies and seems a perfect marriage with the words by Norman Gale, called by him 'Village Hymn'.

Together they admirably call to mind Oakridge's hilltop remoteness with its grazing cattle and waving comfields.

There is also another link, Percy Dearmer. We can imagine perhaps that Martin Shaw visited Percy Dearmer at Lyday Close and was inspired by his beautiful surroundings to compose the hymn ...
