The Rookwoods 'Legend'

Title

The Rookwoods 'Legend'

Subject

There is a tradition at nearby Waterlane that Rookwoods, the home of Sir Robert and Lady Perkins, was the home of one of the conspirators behind the 'Gunpowder Plot'.

The conspirator, knowing the officers of the law were seeking him and having left Lypiatt Park, took the precaution of reversing his horses shoes. Having been pursued to his own home and having retired to bed he was awoken by the officers but was able to convince them that he was not involved as there were no horse tracks leading to the house!
