The Village Shop at 'The Cottage'

Title

The Village Shop at 'The Cottage'

Description

The photo shows Hazel Couldrey Sitting on the wall outside the village stores in the grounds of the house known as The Cottage, Oakridge Lynch.

Visits to the village shop on the way home from school are still remembered by many of the older villagers.

The stores was run by Edris Woolls who after divorcing Stan Woolls married Mr Pankhurst. Their son, Edric married Barbara Jones and had three children, Terry, Gillian and Brian. [Gillian married Phillip and had daughter Kerry and Brian married Tracy and had two children, Richard and Stephanie].

Edris and Ted Pankhurst lived in Woodbine Cottage, where their son William still lives and works forging items from iron and other metals.

Hazel's parents were Harry and Ella Couldrey, who lived at Bishops Cottage. The Oakridge History Book tells more of Harry's wartime experiences (p.100)

Hazel is pictured again in the photo of the village production of "Fairy Gift" in the 1950s. She is the second from the left on the middle row. Her mother was involved in producing scenery and costumes for this and other village productions.
