Information on previous owners gained from documents : 
Richard Gardiner died intestate 1864 and letters of administration granted to his son Cyrus. Cyrus Gardiner died intestate in 1901 possessing this property.

Letters of administration granted to Tom Gardiner of Stratford, Essex, stone mason, in 1902 who then agreed to sell the property “containing about 20 perches more or less with tenements and cottages in the occupation of Miss Sarah Phelps and Mrs George Weir” for £60 to Henry William Gardiner

1903 -1956 H W Gardiner died Jan 1956 aged 88 and is buried in Methodist Chapel 

Lloyd George Survey 1910 records Henry William Gardiner as owner of “Cottage 370 : Stone and tile cottage: 2 bedrooms, living room and pantry, stone and tile coal house, garden, EC” 

Ellen Gardiner, widow of H W Gardiner. Ellen Gardiner, who occupied the property herself died Oct 1955. Her executor, F P Wall sold the property to Edwin George Gleed of Eastcombe for £450 in 1956. Apparently he did not occupy the property.

He died1958 and his widow Phyllis Mabel Gleed sold the property, now referred to as 'formerly two dwelling houses' to Frederick Carr, technical illustrator, in 1958.

He sold to Fred and Joy Woolls of Tunley Farm, Tunley, for £1450 in 1964.

1939/40 War Inventory shows Mr and Mrs Frank Gardiner living here. 

Phyllis Smith rented after the death of her husband in WW1 and her daughter Kathleen remembers living there aged about 2

Additions and Alterations
1957 addition to form new bathroom and new pedestrian access.

1996 Additional land purchased from Donald Kenneth and Joan Sarah Barker of Oakridge Farm, Far Oakridge.

Possible Links to Census details
(These can only be speculative associations as specific properties are not defined in the censuses apart from 1841 where Whiteway is specified with four households)

1841 Possibly Thomas and Ann Gardiner or Absalom and Mary Gardiner. A Richard Gardiner with his family is living in Oakridge in 1841 (p.13), 1851 (No.74), 1861 (No.91) and this could be the Richard Gardiner who owned (but did not occupy) the property or he may not be.
