Description
The Queen's Silver Jubilee was celebrated in style by Oakridge.
An organising committee was established in January 1977 under the Chairmanship of H.W. Kirkwood the then Chairman of the Oakridge Society, assisted by the Secretary Mrs. D. Megginson.
The committee met at the Butcher's arms and comprised of one member drawn from each of the societies within the village. The first image is the 'call to arms' and the second the extensive and ambitious programme the committee developed.
The images are all taken from Mr Kirkwood's own scrapbook he kept of the events that year.
The majority of funds were raised by the Fayre and Raffle together with a grant of £100 from the Bisley Parish Council.
Charitable donations of £421 were made including £50 to The Queen's Silver Jubilee Appeal.
And, as you can see, a good time was had by all!
