Below Siccaridge Wood Lower Lock

Title

Below Siccaridge Wood Lower Lock

Description

The locks are very close together here as the canal climbs steeply up to the summit level beyond Daneway Upper Lock.

This was at the time, c. 1896, of the attempted Trust restoration and the canal has been emptied leading to the barge being marooned in the pound above Bathurst Meadow Lock.

Shown very clearly in this picture are the side pounds on the right of each lock in this flight. It was hoped that these would give extra water capacity to operate the locks, as the original pounds between the locks were inadequate for sustained use.
